The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has raised the alarm that the bad access roads to train stations expose travellers to the dangers of robbery and kidnapping.
The Islamic Human Rights group therefore appealed to the federal and state governments to give all train stations in the country better access roads.
Although the group commended the Federal Government (FG) for providing the trains and their ultramodern stations, it described the access roads that lead to the stations as ‘fish out of the water, spoilers and kill-joys’. Advertisement
MURIC’s Founder and Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, in a statement said :
“Our attention has been called to the very poor condition of the access roads to Nigerian train stations. While the Federal Government (FG) deserves encomiums for providing such vital infrastructure like trains all over the country, we observe that the access roads to the train stations were not considered in the original plan.
“This left the access roads in poor and rough conditions thereby making them looking like fish out of water, spoilers and kill-joys. They just do not fit into the aesthetics of the beautiful architectural structure of the train stations.
“Those access roads need the urgent attention of the authorities including the Federal Government (FG), the relevant state governments as well as the Federal Ministry of Transport.
“Rehabilitating and upgrading the access roads to train stations will attract more passengers for the trains and reduce the stress on our roads. It will also alleviate the suffering of Nigerians encountered during interstate journeys.”
