The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has urged for increased vigilance and enforcement of safety regulations to minimize road accidents. This call to action follows the devastating petrol tanker explosion at Dikko junction on January 18, 2025, which claimed numerous lives and left many injured ¹.
Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, chairman of the NSF, expressed sadness over the incident and emphasized the need for stricter safety measures. “This incident could have been avoided if enforcement agencies had taken precautionary steps,” he stated.
The NSF is urging relevant agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, to ensure that all tankers and heavy-duty vehicles are roadworthy and adhere to strict safety standards. They also cautioned Nigerians against scooping fuel in the event of such incidents, citing the potentially devastating consequences.
The forum extended its sincerest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, offering prayers for the souls of those lost. Senator Mohammed Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District, also condoled with the people of the state, particularly the bereaved families, and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
