SSCTL, FRSC Helmsmen Holds Discussion On Aligning Road Transportation To NQSF

Mallam Umar Muhammad, the Chairman of the Sector Skills Council for Transportation and Logistics (SSCTL), on Thursday 20, June held a strategic meeting with CM Shehu Mohammed, the Corps Marshal, of the Federal Road Safety Corps to discuss critical transportation and logistic matters in Nigeria.

The meeting focused on aligning the road mode of transportation with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) to enhance the development of the Nation’s transportation and logistics sector.

According to Mallam Muhammad, “Similar discussions are ongoing with key stakeholders in other transportation modes, including; Air, Marine, Rail, and the Pipeline, to ensure a comprehensive and unified approach to skills development in the transportation and logistics industry in Nigeria.”

CM Shehu Mohammed of FRSC in his submission, promised to fully cooperate with the Council by giving it all the necessary technical support in developing Skills that would improve Road Safety, Compliance with traffic regulations, and a road culture that is in line with Global best practice.

The Council Chairman said, “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Sector Skills Council must work together in line with NSQF’s Operational Manual to bridge the employment gaps in the road transport sector.

“By collaborating, they can ensure that drivers acquire the necessary skills and certification to enhance their employability and increase their earning potential, starting with the issuance of Driver’s Licenses, the FRSC can integrate skills certification, empowering drivers to access better job opportunities. The success of this collaboration is already evident among Articulated Vehicle drivers, who are enjoying higher incomes, with the opportunity to be opened to drivers of other vehicles, promoting employability and economic growth in the transport sector.” He said.

The Chairman of the Sector Skills Council for Transportation and Logistics (SSC-TL) commended the new Corps Marshal for his relentless efforts in giving the Corps a new look with his recent series of courtesy calls paid to critical organizations and his open-door policy, which demonstrates his commitment to collaboration and stakeholder engagement. This approach will undoubtedly foster a harmonious working relationship among stakeholders, leading to improved service delivery and a more efficient transportation sector.

He added by saying, “The Sector Skills Council (SSC) for Transportation and Logistics is an industry-led organization that brings together employers, training providers, and government agencies to address the skills needs of the transportation and logistics sector.

“The Council has a mission to enhance the skills and competitiveness of the transportation and logistics sector by identifying and addressing skill gaps, developing industry-specific training standards and programs, and promoting career advancement and professional development opportunities.”
